The film portrays Andy, who spends nearly two decades in Shawshank State Prison, a fictional penitentiary in Maine, and his friendship with Red, a fellow inmate. Much of the film was shot in Middle Georgia, and Lenox, Iowa, with settings including the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Priester’s Pecans in Perry, Georgia, the Fountain Car Wash in Macon, Georgia, areas in Montezuma, Georgia, Peach County High School in Fort Valley, Georgia, and areas of Cordele, Georgia<.[3] The film was produced and distributed by Overture Films.[4] The special effects were created by Robert Green Hall.

Release:
The film premiered on February 24, 2010 in Los Angeles[6] and received a wide release in the United States on February 26, 2010.[7] The Canadian DVD and Blu-Ray release is set for June 2010.[8] The DVD and Blu-Ray + Digital Copy combo pack will be released in the U.S. on June 29, 2010.

The film opened at #3 behind Cop Out and Shutter Island with $16,067,552.[19] By May 2010, the film has grossed an estimated $50 million worldwide.

Fassbender likens his character to that of The Riddler and Malcolm McDowell’s performance in A Clockwork Orange but mainly said he found his character when he tried on the derby bowler.
* Aidan Quinn as Ulysses S. Grant: 18th President of the United States.
* Will Arnett as Lieutenant Grass: A Union soldier who enlists Jonah Hex as a bounty hunter.
* Lance Reddick as Smith: An armorer of sorts who supplies Hex with his new weapons.

Jonah Hex was a box office bomb, opening at #8 during its debut weekend with only $5,378,800 in 2,825 theaters, averaging $1,904 per theater.
The film also includes John Gallagher, Jr. as Lieutenant Evan, Tom Wopat as Colonel Slocum, Wes Bentley as Adleman Lusk and Julia Jones as Cassie; as well as an uncredited Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Jeb Turnbull. Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds also made a small cameo appearance.

Comics:
In February 2010, it was announced a series of prequel comics for the movie would be released beginning in March. The comics will be published by IDW Publishing and will be written by Carnahan and Chuck Dixon. A toy line by Jazwares is also to be released to coincide with the film.

Video game:
An application for the iPhone was released as part of the marketing blitz for the film. The A-Team application is a side-scrolling, third person, action shooter game. Produced by RealNetworks, Inc. the game includes voice-overs from BA Baracus.

Release:
The film’s first trailer was released January 8, 2010.The film’s second trailer was released April 1, 2010.

The film premiered in Los Angeles on Thursday June 3, 2010, at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. Liam Neeson arrived in the A-Team van, Bradley Cooper and Sharlto Copley rode in on a real U.S Army tank.

Box office:
The film budget was $110 million,but the cost came in at $100 million after tax credits.Early polling results predicted an opening weekend ticket sales of $30–$35 million.The film took in slightly less than expected, earning $26 million, opening behind The Karate Kid, which took in $56 million.

It was the second highest grossing movie for the weekend in the U.S. and Canada behind Meet the Spartans.The film has a box office gross of $42,754,105 in the United States and in Canada and a gross of $70,489,050 in other territories, giving it a worldwide total of $113,243,155.

The film has grossed $41,368,619 in DVD sales, bringing its total film gross to $152,209,706.
In an unprecedented move, Europe’s biggest cinema chain (and the third biggest in the world), Odeon, controversially refused to show the film on any of its screens in the United Kingdom, blaming “commercial differences”.UCI followed suit in its Republic of Ireland cinemas, which were managed by Odeon.[16] The film was, however, shown in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland by other theater chains such as Empire Cinemas, Vue, Cineworld and Ward Anderson. The film was not shown in the French-speaking part of Switzerland due to legal and commercial problems with the distributor, even if it was available on screens of France and the Swiss German-speaking part.

The film was rated R by the MPAA for strong graphic bloody violence, sexual assaults, grisly images and language.
